Greg Whitecross was appointed Head Coach in September 2009. Greg has a wealth of experience firstly from a successful playing career and now with 25 years coaching expertise, he has joined Blackheath LTC to head up our team of coaching professionals.
Greg was a touring professional achieving a career high world ranking of 130 (singles) and 90 (doubles)
- 1979 – Australian Open Junior Grand Slam singles and doubles titles
- 3 singles titles on ATP tour including victories over Pat Cash & Henri Leconte.
- Following his playing days he has gained extensive coaching experience in both Australia and U.K.
- Initially coached in Melbourne
- Spent 10 years coaching in the U.K. at David Lloyd Heston & Bushey
- Between 2000 – 2003 Greg managed a tennis centre in Brisbane and organised a coaching and competitive structure for over 500 juniors and 250 adults each week
- Since 2004 Greg has worked as a racquets manager at Next Generation/David Lloyd Hatfield
We have a comprehensive year round coaching programme comprising of individual and group lessons. Junior tennis, adult, beginner, intermediate and advanced. All standards of play are included.

Greg played on the ATP Tour from 1978-84 achieving a career high ranking inside top 150 singles.
He won tournaments both on the Satellite and Challenger circuits. Wins on the senior tour include victories over Pat Cash and Henri Leconte.
Greg also won the 1979 Australian Open Grand Slam junior title in both singles and doubles.
Greg moved to the UK in 1991 after 6 years coaching in Melbourne where he worked with talented players such as Mark Phillippoussis. He worked as Racquets Manager for both David Lloyd and Next Generation before leaving the comforts of indoor tennis and moving to Blackheath LTC in Sept 2009.
Greg works with all levels of players and ages and enjoys all the challenges of working at Blackheath.
Likes: Organising tournaments and social events at the club. And bbq’s of course!
Dislikes: Breakdowns in the Blackwall Tunnel and those cold wintry days!
Qualifications: LTA CCA (2008) / LTA Senior Club Coach (Level 4)
As a junior, from age 9 to 17, Ben was a regular Hampshire County player and competed throughout this time in regional tournaments (South England).
Ben played for the University of Birmingham Men's Tennis Team from 2001 - 2003 (Captain 2002).
Prior to moving to Blackheath LTC late in 2006, Ben began his coaching career in Somerset working for DC Tennis Ltd. where he held the position of Deputy Head Coach for 3 years.
Ben has a real passion for tennis. His aim is to deliver quality coaching to performance and social players, juniors and adults, based on a professional best practice approach.

Will has worked for 5 years at Blackheath LTC, alongside two head coaches, Thomas Leach and Greg Whitecross, taking on board some of their experience, to gain a good knowledge and multi facetted approach to coaching depending on the needs of the client or group. Including, game based learning, technical development of shots, tactical play, movement and court positioning.
Will coaches, children’s development groups, mini red, orange, green and yellow ball. Adult groups, beginners and improvers standard. Individual lessons, at beginner, improver and intermediate levels.
Will currently runs the clubs schools programme at Sherington Primary School.

Matt started playing tennis aged 5 at Blackheath LTC. He has been a county player for many years- representing Kent in the National County Cup.
Although an avid player, Matt decided to concentrate on becoming a coach, and gained his license by the age of 18. He has utilised these skills not only at Blackheath Tennis Club, but at numerous corporate events, Wimbledon fortnight and The O2 Masters Final at the end of the year.
Although planning to continue his coaching career, the aim is also to incorporate personal fitness and nutrition into his skillset.
At ease working with all age groups and at all levels, Matt also enjoys the pace and social element of large group sessions. For current club members, answers on a postcard please regarding alternative hairstyle suggestions.
Licensed LTA UKCC Level 3 Club Coach
Keith enjoys the challenges of working in the open air at Blackheath, with players of all levels and ages. He also coaches adults and juniors at Queen Elizabeth's Olympic Park as part of the Olympic legacy, indoors and out. Keith played at county junior level and applies decades of experience coaching sports and performance arts with adults and juniors.
